Loaded and ready to make a run to the area
where the dam is being constructed the operator has the choice of 4
forward speed with speed ranges from 0-36 mph approx. |

of a dry lake bottom getting ready to load again. |

 |
The tractor shown is in normal military
configuration. Notice the wet material at the bottom of the photo and
the heavy dust at the top. The tractors and bowls are built very
heavy to meet the demands as they were designed for war time. These
tractors and scrapers were built for the military at a time when money
was not a problem and they certainly were not trying to compete with
the regular domestic market where fancy paint , CD players and radios
and trying to make a profit for the bottom line was important. Although
older, many contractors have found that in certain conditions these
tractors will still outperform a modern-day piece of equipment. |
| |
|
 |
We have been very successful in working
2 or 3 of the Clark 290Ms together especially in very hard soil
or where wanting to load with a big cut in a very short area. By
teaming up and pushing each other the tractors save the purchase of
a big push tractor as needed in most hard materials with open bowl
scrapers. Our operator usually takes a 1 -3 inch cut and keeps moving. |
| |
|
 |
The return trip with a top speed of 36
mph in good conditions is very important to make every second count
this day in time with the high cost of fuel and operator expense. |
| |
|
 |
Spreading the material is just as important
as loading it. The Clark 290 M will allow you to spread the material
with the bowl, drag and even push with the front dozer blade. |

The Clark 290M 4-wheel drive articulating
tractor shown with a bowl loaded about 4-5 feet above the normal struck
level mark. The is exceptional loading by an expererienced operator
in a clay-sandrock material. |
| |
|
 |
The amount of material loaded into the bowl
is determined by the operators skill and experience along with the
condition of the material being loaded. |
